My client is a nationally recognized ENR Top 80 General Contractor known for delivering complex, high-profile projects across the country. With a strong focus on innovation, collaboration, and excellence, they specialize in constructing landmark facilities in sectors including sports and entertainment, aviation, higher education, healthcare, and large-scale commercial developments. Projects typically exceed $100 million in value and require a deep commitment to precision planning and strategic execution.

They are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Preconstruction to lead their Preconstruction department. The ideal candidate will bring over 15 years of relevant industry experience and a demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects and preconstruction teams. This leadership role requires technical expertise, business acumen, and a passion for mentoring and developing high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Lead, manage, and mentor a preconstruction team of 7 professionals, including estimators, coordinators, and planners.
• Project Oversight: Oversee all preconstruction phases of projects valued at $100MM+, ensuring accurate cost modeling, risk assessment, constructability reviews, and schedule planning.
• Collaboration: Partner with Business Development, Project Management, and Executive Leadership to support pursuit strategies, client presentations, and project wins.
• Client Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during the preconstruction phase, building trust and aligning project goals.
• Strategic Planning: Develop and implement preconstruction processes, tools, and best practices that drive efficiency, quality, and innovation.
• Market Insight: Stay ahead of industry trends, market costs, material availability, and subcontractor performance to inform budgeting and decision-making.
• Technology Integration: Champion the use of estimating and preconstruction technologies such as BIM/VDC, Procore, and advanced takeoff systems.

• Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in preconstruction, estimating, and/or project management within the general contracting industry.
• Proven track record of success on projects $100MM+ in the Sports, Aviation, Higher Education, or similar sectors.
• Strong leadership and team-building capabilities, with experience managing preconstruction teams.
• In-depth knowledge of construction means and methods, scheduling, budgeting, and value engineering.
• Proficient in preconstruction software tools (e.g., OST, WinEst, Procore, Bluebeam, BIM platforms).
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interface effectively with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (Master’s or MBA a plus).
