Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects including utilities, structural concrete, excavation, grading, and asphalt paving.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documentation to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and pricing strategies.
- Support bidding efforts across a mix of DOT public works and private sector site development projects.
- Collaborate with estimating leadership, operations teams, and executives to review risk, pricing strategy, and bid approach.
- Utilize estimating software including HCSS HeavyJob to build and manage estimates.
- Contribute to a fast paced estimating team environment and support mentoring of junior staff and interns.
- Coordinate with regional estimating teams and leadership across multiple offices when required.
Requirements
- 10+ years of estimating experience within heavy civil construction.
- Strong background estimating DOT infrastructure, site development, or structural civil work.
- Experience with scopes such as underground utilities, concrete structures, excavation, grading, or asphalt paving.
- Proficiency with estimating platforms such as HCSS HeavyJob or similar civil estimating tools.
- Ability to work in a fast paced estimating environment and manage multiple bids simultaneously.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with operations and leadership teams.
- Willingness to work primarily from the office in Richmond, VA or Fallston, MD.
