
Director of Preconstruction - Dallas, TX
Client
We are seeking an experienced Director of Preconstruction to lead and oversee all preconstruction activities from initial client engagement through project handoff. This leadership role is responsible for driving project strategy, managing risk, supporting business development initiatives, and ensuring the successful delivery of comprehensive preconstruction services. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with extensive construction knowledge and a proven ability to mentor teams while building strong client and industry relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the preconstruction team, providing direction, coaching, and professional development.
- Develop winning strategies for project pursuits, including RFPs, proposals, and client presentations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Work closely with estimating and operations teams to define project scope, budgets, schedules, and procurement strategies.
- Ensure consistency and quality throughout the preconstruction process across multiple projects.
- Oversee the preparation and review of bid packages, contract documents, insurance requirements, and bonding documentation.
- Participate in project pursuit decisions, including Go/No-Go evaluations and overall bid strategy.
- Manage the prequalification process for subcontractors and trade partners.
- Coordinate with design, engineering, operations, and business development teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, implement best practices, and drive continuous process improvement.
- Support contract negotiations and oversee the development of preconstruction service agreements.
- Represent the organization in client meetings, interviews, and industry events as required.
- Monitor market conditions, industry trends, and project risks to maintain a competitive advantage.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, project management, or construction operations.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing high-performing teams.
- Strong understanding of estimating, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and risk management.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience with design-build and alternative project delivery methods is advantageous.
- Knowledge of commercial construction markets, with experience in mission critical or data centre projects considered an asset.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience working with geographically dispersed teams is preferred.
