Preconstruction companies are facing serious challenges to their work because of an upward trend in the prices of construction materials.
This information surfaced when Niche SSP surveyed 1394 estimators about “the biggest issue” the preconstruction companies faced in their business. A whopping 61% of the estimators interviewed for the poll were unanimous in flagging the hike in the prices of construction materials.
Experts believe the escalation in the cost of materials has made it difficult for contractors to accurately quote projects they want to secure. The US Census Bureau states that the latest year-over-year increase in the cost of construction materials is the largest since 1970.
Another serious problem the preconstruction companies face relates to staff shortages, say over a quarter of estimators in the Niche SPP survey. Issues like the use of the right kind of technology and gender diversity ranked far below the increase in materials prices and staff shortages.
