A construction estimator's salary is a source of keen interest for other construction professionals — irrespective of the increasing complexity involved in the role these days.

A construction estimator salary in states with higher salaries for preconstruction workers can range between $96,000-$133,000, and a junior estimator's salary is between $75,000-$94,000.

Three-quarters of the operations construction professionals — out of a total of 1,167 interviewed in Niche SSP poll — did not rule out the possibility of becoming a construction estimator. Niche SSP is surveying construction professionals to present a holistic picture of the state of affairs of the industry to all the stakeholders. 

No one knows better than the construction professionals the challenges the frequent increase in the prices of the materials, shortages of staff, and building materials pose to an estimator’s job. 

Still, 65% of the surveyed operations construction professionals said “they will consider making a move from operations to the preconstruction/estimating side”. Another 10% replied in affirmative when asked if they would consider joining preconstruction work in the future.

A quarter of the operations professionals said “no” when asked if they would consider joining preconstruction/estimation work. 

Construction estimators typically need a bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as construction and engineering. According to the US Bureau of Census some construction cost estimators become qualified solely through extensive work experience.
